Wave Hill Public Garden

Want to find a nice, tranquil location that you can enjoy without the crowds? No, you don't have to travel way up north--just venture out to Riverdale and visit Wave Hill Garden.

Originally a country home established in 1843, one of it's most famous residents was Mark Twain. The city took over ownership in 1960 and opened up its gates to share its gardens, landscape and history. Located right on the Hudson River, this public garden is a wonderful place to come enjoy the outdoors and explore the different gardens, woodlands and scenery.

Take a break at the cafe where they have a large deck with outdoor seating looking out toward the Palisades or pull up any available seat you will find throughout the grounds and soak in the peace and wonderful aromas that surround you.

It is very easy to get to Wave Hill Garden from Midtown. Hop on the #1 subway to West 242nd where you can transfer to a free Wave Hill shuttle van. Or take the Metro North Hudson line train to Riverdale where you can also catch the shuttle van. It is one of my favorite places to visit and make sure you bring your camera!
