Brooklyn Craft Camp this Saturday

This Saturday you can take a one day vacation and not leave the boro of Brooklyn.  Brett Bara, a well known blogger and DIY pro is hosting the first ever Brooklyn Craft Camp.
I wanted to blog about this because how I wish I was going! Unfortunately I do have to work that morning but maybe some of you, our readers, can go and fill us in.

Starting in the morning with delish donuts from Peter Pan Bakery in Greenopint and listen to keynote speaker Jay McCarroll. Remember him? Winner of Season 1 Project Runway.

Then get ready to choose from a wide variety of classes:

Make a Terrarium

Beginner's Crochet

Crepe Paper Flowers

Wooden Bead Necklace

Learn to Embroider (with Jessica Marquez, an EtsyNY member)

Pom Pom Station sponsored by Purl Soho

and how cool is this one? DIY Nail Art Bar

Finish the day with cocktails sponsored by West Elm.

Visit the website to see a complete list of classes, they are filling up fast so if you get in please let us know how it was!

Go Green & Spring Cavalcade :: 2 markets. 1 day.

Saturday is a big day! It's May 5th, which means it's Cinco de Mayo. In our world of handmade goodies, it's also the Spring Handmade Cavalcade AND the Go Green! Greenpoint Earth Day Festival.

With so much handmade-goodness going on in one day, how do you see it all?? First, a visit to Hopstop. Have you used this before? Awesome for getting directions in the city that do not include a car. Holla for public transportation. Click here for directions from one market to the other. They aren't very far apart, but there will be a train (or 2) involved. Travel time is approximately 8 minutes, but you know how the train can be on the weekend.

{Go Green! last year. Hope the weather is as nice}

We have events going on all the time as well as participation from our team members in weekend markets all over the 5 boroughs. Check our events page for more.

One more note - May 3rd, tomorrow, is the start of Shop Your Values Week. If you like to shop locally, ethically and/or sustainably, this is your week to join thousands of others by using the power of your wallet. Support your local markets & business people!

Greenpoint, Brooklyn
Sunday, December 2nd, 2007
The Hearts and Crafts Affair, a network of young, bright and promising craft creators, will offer a selection of their latest work at Café Grumpy’s Greenpoint location (193 Meserole Avenue at Diamond Street) from noon to six pm. Back for a fifth time due to its unwavering popularity, The Hearts and Crafts Affair has become an opportunity that can’t be missed for the Brooklyn DIY set. Hostess Kira Birney curates a diverse and talented selection of local artists that promise a myriad of original styles. This winter the craft fair will showcase jewelry, paper goods, knit ware, confections, clothing, candles, journals, ceramics and drawings by 18 local independent artists and crafters. The event will also feature musical entertainment throughout the day by Mannequin Circus and friends.
