Cards, Flowers and Candy for Valentine's Day

Yesterday my daughter's boyfriend sent me a clandestine email asking about a necklace she'd mentioned she liked last spring when it was her birthday. He is planning to purchase it for Valentine's Day.

It may seem to be early for Valentine's Day gifts, but walk into any drug store today and you will be bombarded by wall-to-wall aisles of red cardboard hearts filled with inexpensive chocolates. Anyone planning on purchasing something on etsy should order early to make sure their gift arrives on time..just 29 days till

Cards...

The Reimagined Past offers a selection of vintage cards.
This one, Valentine's Day Card with Bouquet of Flowers,
 sells for $5.

Flowers...

An alternative to roses...this beautiful wreath of tulips,
for $80, is from Elegant Holidays.

 and Candy...

Linda's Edible Art offers the candies we love from
childhood in a cookie form.  The cookie is 4 1/2" x
4 1/2" and sells for $36 for a dozen.

Here's hoping your Valentine's Day is sweet!

Spring Color in NYC

Spring has arrived in NYC (yay!), and with it comes a lush bounty of colors popping up all over the city. As no other time of the year is quite so magical (both weather and color-wise), I couldn't resist taking a stroll with my camera the other day to capture the blooming foliage that seems to get brighter and more beautiful with each passing day.

And I'm sure it's no coincidence that many NewNew team members are taking a cue from the colors of the season with their latest offerings. So with that, I'd love to share some of my favorite items that pick up the colors I captured with my camera on that lovely neighborhood stroll. Enjoy!

Dual Purpose: Flower Containers

As with any traditional wedding, I wanted flowers at my reception. I looked high and low for the perfect vase that was both affordable and would fit my garden theme. I found nothing. Then I had an epiphany: I didn't need to limit myself to actual vases. Lots of different containers work for flowers, so why not cups?

I'm a huge fan of Japanese stoneware so I knew I was on to something. The latte brown cups are very earthy looking and not perfectly round, which made them the perfect containers for my garden flowers.

As seen at my reception:

At home:

These "vases" have become my everyday cups. I use them for dinner parties and to drink the recommended 6-8 cups of water every day.

None of my wedding guests knew that these were cups, which makes for an amusing scene when they're at my house and I start drinking out of what they assumed was a vase!

I hope this inspires you to look around your house or places you normally wouldn't think of for your wedding. Not only do you end up saving money, but you'll be helping Mother Earth too.
